my parents dvd player is stuck and it wont eject. thank god one of my B or C rated movies is in there. But i need to get a new dvd player. I was thinking of a Magnavox dvd unit from circuit city for about 50 bucks.

Like most dvd players these days all the units have progressive scan. My tv doesnt have component (RGB) input but it does have S-Video. The magnavox and SONY and Panasonic all have progressive but they seem to indicate that only on the component output (some just say progressive scan - but others like the magnavox says only on component).

So the question is that would progressive make any diff on a normal tv. I doubt it would, but i was just wondering.

The 50 dollar magnavox will do fine for my parents.. though i wouldnt the 70-80 dollar panasonic in fry's because its black. Silver will look weird among the black components.

no, a tv must be able to take component and have progressive mode. otherwise it will not matter. some tv's have component inputs which are still better even if not progressive. if u just have svideo.. eh bleh u can't do anything heh. pos player is all u need

i think the tv does have component, but i dindt put it on because the this dvd player doesnt have component output.. in anycase i am not moving a 100+lb tv just to put 3 cables on.. esp if i am stuck doing it by MYSELF!

so i think svideo will be fine.., and screw progressive scan.
