Hmmm not a bad price, I might stay away from Samsung as my current player is
a Toshiba, I guess they are one big company now. It's only 2 1/2 yrs old and it
sounds like the spindle bearing is shot, every disc vibrates in it, this is with light
usage ( 3-4 ) hrs./wk..

Do you happen to leave a DVD in it with it on? Menus cause it to play continually.

Almost any is fine. I prefer one that includes optical audio out and those are on the market for about $50. The only players I have a "hate" relation for say Daewoo on the front. Daewoos are my number one player, even using DVD-ROM bitset DVD+R T-Y media, that will not play writeable media.

No, I always shut it off when done. I'm leaning to a panasonic for around 50-60
as I have no need for HDMI, my 36" CRT is only 2 yrs. old so it might be awhile
before I go HDTV...

I read the reviews for the Samsung in the previous link and I have a question about
dvd players. I'm not sure if it's just the upconverting ones, but in the review a couple
people mentioned the "pausing" when playing backup dvds. Is this a common problem
among these types? I ask because I just got my first HDTV over the weekend and also
got an LG (forget the model # offhand) upconverting DVD player hooked up via HDMI.
All my original movies play fine but any of the backups that I made for the kids movies
have that pausing problem every few minutes. I don't think it's the disc, since they play
fine when I hook my old $20 Apex back up and run it on that. I'd stick w/ the Apex, but
I loved the clarity of the upconverting player.
