DVD Player question

For some reason last weekend I went to play a DVD for my kids and no sound came out. It had been working fine for months, but all of a sudden no sound. I doubt it, but can an HDMI cable go bad where video is fine but audio is gone?

My current setup in the den is LCD TV hdmi to the LG DVD player. The DVD player is also hooked up to a stereo reciever. I can hear sound if I turn on the receiver (had been able to before as well). I have another DVD player/recorder hooked up to the tv, but this one is via rca jacks (this dvd recorder has no hdmi output) and that works fine, audio and video.

The tv has two hdmi inputs and i've tried plugging it in either one, but no sound there so I don't think it's the tv. I've played w/ the dvd player remote to see if my youngest had pressed some odd combo of buttons to turn off something but it doesn't appear to be that either.

Any ideas?
