DVD player options for 32" LCD HDTV

My fiance just bought us a 32" LCD hdtv (long story, I lent her a tv, she moved in with me and bought me a new tv and left the old one with her roommates) and I'm on the fence about getting an HDVD player on an upscaling dvd player....

I plan to watch mostly DVDs with no urge to replace my library.. Since 32" is pretty small I don't even think upscaling is necessary - true or no?

I have a 57" hdtv (1080i) and the upscaling seemed worth it, but is it worth it for a 32" tv? (720p)

Toshiba A2 HDDVD player. $200 at Walmart I believe, with 5 free movies.

The HD DVD player is $197.99 at Circuit City. Buy a pack of candy or 2 to bring it up to $200. Then use the $40 off $200 coupon to get it for $160 + tax. The coupon is good until the 31st.

Enjoy

Sears will have the Toshiba HDA3 HD-DVD player for $169 on Black Friday....5AM through noon. I'd think this is one item that may not sell out within the first 5 minutes of the store's opening.

No one's really answered your original question, so I will. On a 32 inch LCD TV, you're going to be hard pressed to notice a huge difference from 480p to 720p. I'm not sure the upconverting player is worth it for you.

You should be able to get $80 for the 5 movies, which makes the HD-DVD player a cool $120. It upconverts very nicely.

To get more usage out of it, he could also use it on his 57". I assume the 57" is 1080i/720p?

I can see a very big difference between a DVD and an HD DVD with my 1366x768 32" LCD.
