I have a toshiba 12x DVD (model SD-M1402) and the ati all in wonder rage pro 128. Abit VA6 motherboard. I have the newest drivers for the all in wonder, and for the mobo I believe. The problem with the DVD playback is that black scenes are especially blocky. DMA is enabled, and nothing else is running. Anyone else have this problem with ATI playback etc. Please let me know. Thanks.

I had this problem with my Rage Fury Pro Vivo, which is the All-in-Wonder without the TV tuner.

To fix the problem, which BTW only is apparent in the last few driver releases, just reduce the brightness setting in the DVD player's settings, and maybe adjust the contrast on your monitor so that it is not quite "full blast". At first (right after getting rid of the blockiness) it might look much darker than what you may be used to, but after watching for a while you will probably notice that the image is much sharper and richer than what you had before. On my 20" monitor it looks very very good. If you have it handy, the "Lost In Space" DVD is really demanding and reveals the blockiness problem quite well.

I had a similar problem with DVD playback on a mates machine - I found that hardware acceleration had been turned on, when he didn't have a hardware decoder. Turning off hardware acceleration fixed all the blockiness. (This is in AsusDVD player btw, not sure how to do it in other software).

cheers

If you are using the ATi DVD player or another player based on the Cinemaster engine, make sure hardware acceleration is enabled. The Rage Pro 128 graphics chip has DVD acceleration built in.

If you are using the ATi DVD player, hardware acceleration is always enabled.

If you are using another DVD player, you have to go into the setup or preferences for that program and make sure the proper option is selected.

OK, here is a fix if you are using Win 98 or ME. It's not as convoluted as it seems..... But why the hell can't ATi get it right without making us mix'n'match drivers?????

Install the 6292 driver set from ATi's web site. Then install ATi Multimedia Center from your original CD. Don't install the drivers from the CD, just the MMC.

Download and install the 631CD25e driver set from HERE.

After restarting your computer, copy ATI3DRAA.DLL (version 2196) and ATIMCRAA.DLL (version 3032) from ...\windows\system to a temporary location.

Reinstall the 6292 drivers.

After rebooting, copy the two .dll files you saved from the 631CD25 set back into ...\windows\system

Reboot.

You should now have flawless DVD playback, as well as excellent Direct3D and OpenGL performance.

Worked for me...... Much thanks to MasterSurfer at Rage Underground!
