DVD playback software for Windows 10? Will VLC handle menus?

Just curious what the options are for Windows 10 for a DVD playback software, for a laptop with a real DVD drive.

I know that Windows 7 included one, so if you in-place upgrade to Windows 10 on top of Windows 7, Windows 10's installer installs "DVD Player" on Windows 10. Any other way to get it, for a clean install?

VLC can do some stuff with menus, though, it isn't perfect.
You can also use Media Player classic (MPC-HC), which I find to be slightly better for menus.

Both of these also support reading the video from the iso of the DVD as well.

You have multiple NAS's and far as I know plenty of time. Just rip your DVD's. 🙂
This is for a client, who is buying a Windows 10 laptop off of me with a DVD drive, and they were asking about DVD playback options.

Just looking for something cheap or free, cheaper than paying for PowerDVD Ultra.

Usually with customers I recommend the free option with the explanation that if it doesn't work out, they haven't spent out for something needlessly, then they can try the commercial software option.

Back in the day PowerDVD worked for me as often/likely as VLC works for me now.

I just installed VLC 2.2.6 in Win 10 and it played a movie perfectly - menus and all.

Vlc and mpc-hc both work fine. Know that mpc-ht is not being updated. Hell windows media player plays dvds.

Media player in Win10 doesn't play dvd's anymore because M$oft took out the dvd codec, so you'll have to use another program. The exception is for people who upgraded from Win7/8 to 10 and got to keep their existing dvd codec.

You can buy it. I actually did.... Just to get that MPEG2 decoder. That means I can play MPEG2 videos in MKV container with the Windows 10 movie app.

Welp, since all my win10 machines are upgraded from prior version, never noticed new install doesn't get the app free.
