I just put together a comp for the first time and the only problem I cant fix is my dvd. When I try to watch it, the movie seems to lag and the video would skip. The movie would play, then pause, then play, without skipping the sound (duno if you all can understand this description). Can anyone provide possible causes of this and a solution? thanks.

system:
Asus A7V133, 800mhz duron
DVD rom that I took out of my old dell dimension
ATI raedon 64mb w/ vivo

Which player are you using?
Via 4-in-1's installed?
Is DMA turned on for your DVD drive?

I tried using the program ATI supplied and also the PC Friendly program thats given along with the dvd itself. Both still suffered from this problem. I am afraid I dont know what DMA is, let alone how to set it up...please explain further.

right-click My Computer, go to Properties, and then click on the Device Manager tab.

find your DVD drive, and double click on it. There should be DMA box in the Settings tab. Make sure it's checked.
