dvd playback problem

bought a used sony viao pcg-f480 (pIII 600mhz / 384MB Ram / 6mb video mem). it's running winxp. i have powerDVD 6.0 installed. on dvd playback, it's terrible.... it's not smooth AT ALL. i had another laptop, compaq m300 (pIII 500mhz / 256MB ram / 4mb video). also running winxp and it played dvd's smooth.

i downloaded the most current video drivers for the sony and still have the same issue. any ideas?
