DVD Playback Problem

I reformatted a couple of days ago and now I cannot play DVDs through media player. It says I do not have the required dvd decoder installed. I don't remember installing one previously but maybe I did. Do you know if there are any free ones out there? I read something on ATI's site about having a decoder in the catalyst drivers but I am still getting the error.

i've never been able to natively play dvds from a fresh install. i've always installed cyberlink's powerdvd to play dvds... much better than WMP
