DVD Playback on Radeon 64MB and Pioneer 16X Aweful

DVD playback quality, as well as over-all 2D text quality and gaming frame rates, has declined greatly after I recently installed the latest drivers from ATI. The updated ATI Radeon drivers, by default, installed the "AGP VXD's" in turbo mode instead of the previous default normal mode.

Just for your information, I installed the latest Via 4-in-1 drivers and the latest Asus A7V bios revision (1GHz Thunderbird, 256MB CAS2 SDRAM) as well, however, I am still unable to enable DMA on my Pioneer 16X or my Plextor 12/10/32A. I believe this might be causing the jerky DVD playback.

On the issue of graphic acceleration performance, do I dare install the old drivers again? What about DMA? Poor 2D quality? (Of note: I removed the ATI startup program using msconfig, since I don't like the little bar on the side of my desktop or the ATI icon in the system tray. I doubt this could be causing my problems though.)

Any assistance would be most helpful. It took me long enough to get the ATI card working as is...

lol.

Running out of options, I reinstalled the drivers for the Promise Ultra ATA-100 onboard IDE controller. Even though the only thing on it is the hard drive, it seems to have made a difference on regular controller as well. Both drives are now operational with DMA.

Wierd...

DVD now looks great and so does 2D quality. I still have no clue how this helped but at least it works!

Watch next time I boot up, nothing works... lol

Now if only I could figure out why Windows pauses for two minutes during startup.....

Goto AMDZONE.COM and post on the forums over there. There are a lot of ATI success within the forums.

Frankly it shows that you're less than intelligent and really don't have a clue what you are talking about.

If you install the 4in1 drivers' IDE drivers, then you lose the ability to enable/disable DMA in the system panel in control panel. I take it you put the DVD on the ATA100 controller now? That might explain why you can check the DMA box again.
