DVD playback on 9700 PRO? *RESOLVED*

I was under the impression that the Radeon 9700 PRO offered hardware DVD decoding & motion compensation and the like. However, when I try playing a DVD with it using hardware decoding I get nothing but a jumbled up green screen with funky crosshatches and never see anything of the DVD. I have to switch to software decoding/motion comp. to play the DVD.

Has anyone else seen this? Know what might be wrong?
 
You were under the wrong impression. The Radeon only supports hardware assist (motion compensation), not hardware decoding. Same for the GeForce and other modern video cards.

Oh... well anyway, that still doesn't help, because when I turn on hardware motion compensation is when I get this green-screen glitch. Never had that problem with my GeForce3. This happens in Windows Media Player and in PowerDVD.

Where's there a patch for PowerDVD?
 
A hope there's a patch for you. I mean, ATI has always been know for thier hardware DVD playback and with your 9700 Pro it should rock in full screen considering it looks unbelievable on my GeForce4-Ti4400 using WinDVD.🙂
 
If I recall, ATI has had motion compensation since 1997 and inverse discreet cosine transform since 1999. Nvidia finally reluctantly added garden variety MC on their high-end chips in 2000 just because it was embarassing not to have that "bullet item". They still suffer subpar video features and quality. So anyhoo, there is clearly some simple thing wrong with your system that is preventing you from enjoying the best possible DVD output available -hopefully it is from not having the latest version of PDVD.
