dvd playback failed. could be my lcd?

here's the error i get:

"layback failed due to a problem with the video subsystem. Lowering your screen resolution or color depth may fix the problem"

i have a envision 15" lcd and a geforce 4 ti4200 card. how can i get dvd movies to play on my comp?

It's not your lcd. Did you try lowering your screen res or color depth? What dvd player are you using?

yes, i tried lowering the colors from 32 to 16 bit, and the resolution from 1024 to 800x600.

still no dice

What program was this again? Also, try it with different refresh rates. Have you ever been able to play dvd's, or is this the first time you have tried?

we get this at work with a remote assistance program hooking up the direct draw and didrect 3d.

i suspect one of the vnc servers do this as well.

go into dxdiag from a run command and into display and see if its enabled if not then enable it.

other than that sorry i cant think this early in the morning but will keep watching this thread
