DVD Playback broken in Windows

I just installed a new Pioneer 16x slot loading DVD drive in my computer, and it works for reading CDs, and it also recognizes DVDs correctly, but when I try to play a DVD using PowerDVD or Windows Media Player all I get is some pink static, and if I let it play too long it will lock my computer up. Has anyone seen this problem, and if so, what can be done? My system specs are in my sig.

Thanks,
Geoff

Hi,

I have a similar system to yours, Athlon XP, win XP pro, 512MB pc3200 corsair ram, pioneer 16x slot dvd-rom and power dvd. Mine works fine.

Couple of things to check. Get latest video drivers (i've got an nvidia card).

Is your epox board a via chipset? Have you got the via 4 in 1 (hyperion) x.48 latest drivers?

Good luck,

Andy

also make sure your dvdrom is still in ultra-dma mode. sometimes dvd software (or windows) changes the ide channel back to pio mode which makes the drive cheese-tacular for dvd viewing.
