DVD or not to DVD

I am on a budget buy willing to sacrifice if needed. I was wondering if it is necessary to get a DVD drive or just a regular CD-rom drive. I am not going to sit in front of my computer to watch movies so what other uses are there for a DVD drive. I want to see if there is a reason for me to spend $50 more dollars.

if DVD is recomeneded which brand is better Panasonic or Samsung both are 12X

If you are not going to watch DVD's on your Monitor it may be useless. If you get a videocard with video out and your computer is close enough to the TV, you can pump out the DVD to your TV.

Go for the Toshiba 12X DVD they are 86 bucks per piece. Cool drive.
