DVD or CDRW wont recognize cd. Have to log off then back on to recognize!!!

Basically im in windows and pop in a cd. It wont recognize it though and when i go to explore the cd i either get insert cd or it freezes. In order to have it recognize a cd, i have to log off then back on or reboot. Once i log back on it recognizes it though but if i change a cd i have to log offthen back on. Whats going on here

This happens in two different drives in the same PC?

I recently had a Polaroid BurnMAX32 CDRW in my XP machine do the same thing. Replacing the drive solved the problem... (Wierd... I gave it to a friend in Alaska and he has had no problems with it.)

The Polaroid drive is made by BTC and they were of no help whatsoever.

just started happening recenly. Maybe 4 weeks ago. I just think its a driver issue. A clean xp install would work i think but i dont want to do that
