dvd optical drive and sata hard drive

ok, so i just purchased a SAMSUNG 160GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive (copy and pasted 🙂 and a NEC 3500 earlier this evening. both were purchased oem; neither are coming with any cables that i might need, so my question to you all is what cables might i need to purchase / plug in (aside from the 4 pin molex cables stemming from the power supply) and could i pull them from the current system (which has neitehr cd/dvd burner nor sata hard drive)?

thankes for your expertness.

not to overemphasize the importance of my question, but on a heavily trafficked forum like this it gets lost among the din.

Uh, for the SATA drive you'll need a SATA cable, and possibly a 4-pin molex->SATA power adapter if the drive needs a SATA power connector and your PSU does not have one. Some SATA drives still use the standard molex power connector.

For the DVD drive (as with all IDE drives!), you'll need a free channel on an IDE controller, and an IDE cable (or you can plug it in as the slave on an existing cable if there isn't one already attached). You'll also need to plug it into the PSU.
