DVD on ATA33 problam- help please??

hi people,
i have a gigabyte 7dxr mobo and my hard disk is on the promise controller.the DVD is master on primary channel on the VIA 686B southbridge.
the problam is thet i cant enable ATA33 on the DVD(TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-M1502).
when i boot in the big table in the begining its said "DVD ATA33" but then there is a list with info on the DVD thet says it works in PIO4.
of course i cant enable it in windows.
i tried to install the VIA 4in1 with DMA enabled no go.
can u help???
what is the preformance loss??can i watch movies without slowing downs???
 
It's been my observation that you shouldn't pay too much attention to the info during POST. Make sure it's DMA enabled in Windows and you're fine.
 
Aargh bloody hell. Your right Mindblast. Mine has set itself off DMA as well. I just turned it onto DMA before I restarted my machine last. Weirdness
 
in the bios set the drive propertys manually to dma, not to auto and then try windows dma.

i'm not too hopefull that this will work though:

i had this phenomenon with a burner on a DFI KT133 board... couldn'tget it to work never ever, so to avoid buffer underruns that burner can now only do 8x instead of 12x 🙁

has anybody got a suggestion other than cursing at VIA??
