I am new to this forum business but I have a problem with my computers DVD rom and RW and am wondering if someone might help. The problem is that XP tells me they are working properly but when I place a dvd in the rom drive I'm asked to put a disk in the dive. When I put a disk in the RW it will read the disk and then show nothing on the screen. One puzzling bit is that in windows explorer the icon for the drives changes from a dvd icon to a cd icon. Can someone please help
Thanks

1) Flash the firmware.
2) Go to device manager and uninstall the drive. It'll reinstall on reboot.
3) Open up your case and make sure the cables are snugg. Then pull out the IDE cable and plug it back in.
4) Uninstall drive again. And reboot again

This has happened to my Plextor 708A. Oh yeah and suggestions are for windows xp. Good luck.

If:
- Your mobo uses Nvidia chipset, and;
- You've installed the Nvidia IDE/ATAPI controller.

Roll back the IDE/ATAPI controller to the standard Windows IDE/ATAPI driver.

If not - ignore this post.

Instructions for rolling back drivers can found by clicking Start/Help and Support and using search phrase 'roll back driver'. Windows will have installed the standard Windows IDE/ATAPI initially, so you should be able to roll back to that driver.

Hope this helps!
