DVD MPEG Conversion?

DVD standard is MPEG-2. The VOB files can be played just the same when copied to the HDD with any number of apps. See videohelp or doom9

Well, that's really got nothing at all to do with "General Hardware" but I'll give it a shot...
1. Lay a clean white (no patterns), cloth on a small table. The table should be no larger than 2' x 2'.
2. Remove the DVD from its holder. Lay it "face down" in the middle of the cloth.
3. Drink three cups of Green Tea within 15 minutes.
4. After drinking the Green Tea, stand directly over the DVD on the table (don't stand "on" the DVD just over it).
5. Turn your PC on and create a new folder on your Desktop, name it "ConverTow".
6. While standing over the DVD, focus all your will on converting the DVD to an Mpeg file in your "ConverTow" folder.
7. Hold your focus for at least 13 minutes for a standard DVD or 21 minutes for a double DVD.
8. Enjoy your newly converted video!

Do you mean you want to convert it to play on a portable player like an iPod or other such device? If so, you want to look for a 'dvd ripping' program. There are a lot of programs out there, but I'm not sure if they're 100% legal so I won't name them.

Love that app. Let's me take 6-7 movies with me on my Treo650's 2GB SD card.

I've been searching for a decent app like this for almost a year. The closest I've found is 'Magic DVD Ripper' but it's too expensive. THIS may be what I'm looking for. Thanks bob4432!

no probs, and if you have the time i would use the x264 option - excellent video quality. i usually set mine up for 500MB and movies that are 1.5-2.3hrs look excellent at a high resolution. basically i use the highest resolution that is under 720x480 and just cut off the bars if they are 16x9 movies.
here (yes, safe for work and a safe for all) is a 3:26/20MB/704x368/24fps clip so you can see the quality - the clip has lots of colors, movement and gradients so you an get a feel what it can do on other material
