DVD Movies on laptop

Is an Athlon xp m 2400+ adequate to play DVD movie? Do I need any special software to see a movie on a laptop or will it play with media player? If I connect the laptop to a TV with S Video out will I need any special software?

Do excuse all these very basic questions as I'm a newbie

Heck yeah, heck yeah, and heck no. That CPU is more than enough to decode a DVD. You'll need DVD player software of some kind. If your laptop came with a DVD drive, odds are you have PowerDVD or WinDVD or some such player already on the HD. And you won't need any special software beyond a DVD player to output DVDs via the S-Video out, although your drivers obviously have to support that (most should).

Feel free to ask if you need more help.

1. Yes a 2400+ is more than enought for DVD playback.
2. Media player should work, but I would recomend a software DVD player.
3. You should not need any additional software to use your S-video out, you will need to activate it from your video card driver control panel.

My laptop is coming next week with NO OS. I am loading Winxp and am on vacation same day for two weeks. If there is no OS in the system then will the hard disc still have DVD playing software. If not I would like to download and carry with me. Are they freeware or do you have to pay?

Adequate... HELL YES...

Software... most probably no, but download a freeware DVD player anyway.

Download the driver for ur video card, it will ensure that you can play via the S video out..
