I plan to buy "The Sims 2" for a friend in France for Christmas (to practice his English, lol,) but I was wondering, do DVD versions of a game have regions marked on them? Or does this only apply to video DVDs?

It will work fine. As Wag said, the region encoding is a video only thing. Even the footage on the Sims 2 DVD is not region-special

BTW, IIRC, if you buy the version in Europe, it comes with the major languages, English, French, German, etc...

FYI, there are games out there that insist you have a certain region of windows installed or they won't install. A very well known example is Quake 2. I felt quite irked when it gave me a message saying it wouldn't install on my Jap WinXP- punk-ass publishers (but i found a back door around this by manually installing the files). This has nothing to do with the media being cd/dvd (quake 2 being on cd).
