A friend of mine just put a Samsung DVD drive in his computer, and, installed PowerDVD software. The dvd software ran him through a wizard, and, enabled DMA for the controller, on their suggestion. When trying to play a movie ( Battlefield Earth ), it plays about ten minutes into it, then, the computer freezes up. He has to hit the reset button on the computer, to reboot it, then, when trying to play the movie again, same thing happens, it freezes up, after playing a few minutes. I noticed a software program called " PC DVD" loaded up when he put this particuliar movie in the drive. When I went to "Add/Remove Programs", PC DVD programs shows up there. Question: is it possible the freeze occurs because he's trying to run the movie in Power DVD, and, PC DVD is loading, too? Or, could running the Samsung DVD drive as a slave, to the harddrive, be the problem? Anyone have any ideas of what could be causing the freeze ups? The OS is Windows 98 SE, the cpu is an AMD T-bird 1 ghz, 256mb of ram.
