DVD Flick question

I'm making a DVD of some TV episodes in AVI format. If the video and audio bitrate are set to auto, does that mean the quality will continually get worse as more video is added? Is there a rule of thumb for how many hours of video can be put on one DVD while keeping the quality decent? The resolution on most of the files is something like 624x352.

of course. i'm assuming you got these "legally".. because web sources for tv avi's tend to be sub dvd quality to begin with. only 720p captures would transfer to decent dvd quality...and thats just barely because of the low bitrates seen on webrips makes their actual detail far below actual 720p.
the recompression of avi to dvd will result in further loss of quality. its already been through the ringer once to get to avi.
it will look soft to say the least.
as for how much you can squeeze in? 2 hours. the avi's having lower resolution mean nothing to the dvd because they are rescaled to dvd resolution when converting to dvd format.
