DVD +/- experts, I need your advice...

I want to buy some bulk DVD Rs before the school year starts and I have some choices that you can help narrow down.

TDKs Printable Made in India DVD-Rs from Costco at $0.20 a disk
Verbatim DVD+R or DVD-R at $0.20 a disk
TY Media $0.27-8 a disk

At the same price, would you prefer TDK or Verbatim? I dont have a printer that will print on them so that feature is a waste. Are TY's really that good? What do you prefer, DVD+R or DVD-R?
 
If the verbatims are Datalifeplus 16X's "+R", they should be CMC, so I would go with those.

What's the speed on the TY's? And what burner do you have and what speed?

I thought CMC disks were bad? I've always heard horror stories about Made in India CMCs. The flyer I have in hand does not mention that they are Datalifeplus so I assume that they are vanilla Verbatim.

TYs are 8x and TDKs are 16x (which does me no good, I usually burn at 2.4-4x for maximum compatibility and with the verify option checked with Nero.
 
I'm not an expert by any means, but I've asked the same question and Verbatim was the consensus. Some people only use TY, but it doesn't appear that they are actually any better than Verbatim.

Also I now only use DVD-R simply because many DVD players do not like +R's. I've personally never noticed a difference between the two in quality.
 
So Verbatim CMC is good?

If your DVD is only -R, and only 8X, I'd go with the 8X TY over the 16X verbatims. I've read that burning way slower then the rated speed can cause problems (I have never seen this, but read it a few times).

But since you can only burn at 8X, you can burn the TY's at their rated speed, and TY's are good quality media.

For 16X +R burners, the Verbatim DLP 16X CMC manufactured media is probably among the best media for that type (16X, +R), I always use +R's, so I have no expereince with -R media, other then what I have read.
 
IMO, as long as it isn't Memorex either brand should be ok. I personally would go TDK but that only because I have a few hundred of them that I bought a while ago and have yet to make a bad disk. I don't know if TDK sux now as I havent had to buy DVDs in a long time (stocked up pretty well).
