Howdy,

I'm looking for information in duplicating and printing DVDs.

1) We have a duplicator now but it's CDs only and doesn't do DVDs. I have to go find out what model it is to see if I can just replace the drives or not. If I can, then that will be no problem. If not, then we might be looking into a new one and I'm just wondering if anyone has recommendations to look for.

The only ones I have used are the Kanguru brand duplicators as we have one like that at work. Not sure if they are good or if there are better ones to get for whatever reason.

2) The other thing is we may want to look into using DVDs that we can print directly on (instead of using labels) to make them look nicer. I don't know anything about printers that can print directly onto CD/DVDs. Are there any that are better than others that are not very expensive?

3) Finally I know there are also some combination units that have the Discs on a spindle, pick one up, bring it, move it to the printer, then pick another to burn while the first is printing, etc. I've never used or seen anyone use one of these to know if they work well or not.

Thanks for any input or advice.

Ok; so the question here is:
1.) why are we doing this? are you trying to glass-master some stuff you created or are you doing a burn-on-demand system?

Glass mastering is something I would recommend you out-source:http://www.mediatechnics.com/pages/duplication.htm

If it is a burn on demand system then from what I've seen many cd burner systems can just have the drives replaced, but how can we tell without more info, right?

I would write a number of companies that are selling anything for 1k+ and ask them for their best quote directly, then take that to the next company and say "I got it offered for X what can you do?".

It's basically a promotional DVD that someone from our church is making and we'll be wanting to make a couple hundred copies to start with a who knows how many down the road.
