DVD duplication

I wanted to know if anyone knows how I can duplicate a dvd without buying the expensive machine to do it. 1) Can I make a copy of the dvd to convert to vcd? 2) Can I convert a vhs tape to dvd? Thanks.

I'v been all over doom9's site and another big one. My big issue is I make the things and the options they show you make them into an AVI. I would assume it be an MPEG around a gig or 1.3 range so I could split it and make VCD's. Once they becomes AVI's with the methods I use then I can't get anything to return em to mpeg and therefore can't make a VCD

There's apps out there that'll convert avi to mpeg-1 which can be burned to vcd, just make sure the supported resolution matches up.

Maybe thats my problem. I'v had a couple progs that claimed to do that but when you run em on the files they fail or give errors.
