DVD driver issues during Windows 7 install

Hi all,

I'm trying to set up a ZBox ID82 at the moment. I'm using a Liteon ETAU108-02 external DVD drive, with Windows 7 x64 DVD. The drive will happily load the DVD and boot from it, but the installation will stop with complaints that it does not have a necessary CD/DVD driver. I have tried to find a driver for this drive, but all information from Liteon happily informs me that the device is totally plug and play, and has no need for a separately installed driver! Hah ¬_¬

Does anyone have any advice for what I should do?

Weird, that shouldn't happen... Any chance you can install from USB?

Maybe removing all other mass storage devices (except the hard drive) will solve it, though.

Unfortunately the only other devices connected to the computer are screen, K&M, and the built in devices (i.e. card reader). I don't have a flashable USB stick handy, but I may have to resort to it soon.

What is happening (i think as this is what happened to me), the CDROM is booting fine attached to USB, Windows starts to start up but doesn't have a driver for the USB controller. If you dig around in the BIOS you will often find and option to set it to "legacy mode" which typically works.

That or embed the USB driver in the 7 disk and burn an updated copy.

I picked up a USB key, and the install worked fine. (Apart from some minor fun creating a 64 bit bootable stick from 32 bit Windows.) Thanks for the help guys!

That doesn't mean the USB controller itself was able to use the generic USB driver. OEM stuff often seems to go out of their way to be nonstandard. However he got it to work so he is good.
