Dvd drive

Do you just a plain CD-ROM drive? When I installed my DVD-ROM drive it wouldn't read CDs at first either. Try the CD-ROM, that worked for me.

Is the drive the lowest letter assigned to an optical drive? Is the bios set to boot from cd? Does the light come on on the drive and does it spin up?

Some more info would be nice.

Go and see what the drive is called under the BIOS, then set whatever it is to your primary boot device, THEN select "Boot from CD".

Hi, I've never seen a bootable 98 CD except the ones I have burned myself. I guess some OEM cds were made bootable, but haven't seen one. The ones from MS do not boot. If the copied disk for XP was not copied as a bootable then it wont boot either. Incidentally, AUTO RUN is not the same thing as BOOTABLE. Autorun happens if Windoze is running and healthy. Bootable works from powerup or reboot.

Luck, Jim
