DVD drive zone question

I live in Brazil and tomorrow I'm going to Seattle. I'm thinking about buying a Pioneer or Lite-on DVD-ROM drive, I just have one doubt: USA is DVD region 1, Brazil is region 4. How does the whole region mess works out with a PC DVD drive?

Oh, and do you have any recommendations of good stores in Seattle?
