So, i have put together a computer. The dvd drive was able to load drive cd's that came with some of my products, but is totally not working when i try to install games (the important stuff!), so far i have tried Dragon Age origins, and Mass Effect 2, neither will load, and i am completely confused.

Like i said it loaded my motherboard drivers, and monitor driver cds. It is an old drive, it is a SONY optiarc AD-7170A. Why would the drive work for certain things and not the other? Any clues? Should i just bite the bullet and get a new drive, or does anyone have any ideas for me. Thanks in advance.

Edit: I also have not registered my copy of windows 7...I have no idea if that would confuse anything--I would think not--but i am just throwing it out there.

Your drive should be compatible with Win 7, but as you said, it's old. You can replace it for around $25. Saving the time and hassle is worth more than that. :)
