DVD Drive will not let Computer POST

I just bought a new LITE-ON SATA DVD Burner to replace my old CD Drive. When I install it and power on the computer everything powers on but the screen stays blank and some strange clicking comes from my speakers (presumably some static discarge of sorts?). The lack of a beep from the PC speaker would lead my to beleive that the POST is not happening. When I unplug either the SATA cable or the power (SATA) my computer will boot fine. What can I do to fix this?

Are you running a SATA HD? Have you looked in the bios to see if you have confused the boot order?

Have you got RAID enabled in the BIOS?
If so, this could be an issue if the mobo is searching for 2 hdd, and picks up a dvd instead.
