DVD drive - which interface?

Hi all,

I have an old Dell Dimension L800r, and I am hoping to upgrade my CD drive to a DVD burner. However, I am mostly clueless when it comes to EIDE vs IDE vs SATA or whatever.... The current CD drive is a Sony model that I looked up on the net and found to be listed as "IDE". Also, I looked under the Device Manager in Windows XP and it appears that my 2 hard drives are running off IDE controllers.

My questions are: Does this mean I should be an "IDE" interface dvd burner? Can or should I use an E-IDE interface burner? Finally, I am assuming that unless I buy an adapter, I cannot use an SATA burner - would that be a better option?

Please excuse me if these are silly questions - it seems like it should be a simple matter to upgrade a drive, but I am stuck and would appreciate any helpful advice you may offer.

Thank you!

PS - Running XP Home, if that matters at all.

Welcome to the Forums :) For your purposes, consider EIDE to be just another name for IDE or Parallel ATA, it's all good. Since your system's equipped for that type of drive, you might as well stick with IDE as opposed to SATA. Just replace your CD drive with your new DVD burner and you should be all set.
