DVD drive... what type is it?

Hello,

I've a Pioneer DVR-A07/107 8x8. It's a DVD +/- R/RW.

I'm using Pinnacle Studio 8 to try to make a DVD of my wedding. but it doesn't want to create the DVD. Here's what I've noticed about my computer:

In "my computer" window, the DVD drive is listed as a CD drive under the type category. Is it normal or should it be listed as DVD drive type? If it's not normal, how can I change that? Do I need to change a registry entry? If so which one?

In addition, when I insert a blank DVD, the auto-play window says it's a blank cd that was inserted.

Does Windows do a difference between DVD and CD drive and blank CD and blank DVD or not at all?

Device manager lists the DVD drive properly and says it's working properly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank a lot!!!

on my windows 2000 box my dvd writer is listed under DVD/CD-Rom Drives and then just the name of the drive is stated.

Thanks for your post.

So I guess I should have "DVD drive" instead of "CD drive"... Any idea how I can change that?

Unforgiven,

In your registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/HARDWARE/DEVICEMAP/Scsi/Scisi Port 0/Scisi Bus 1/Target Id 1/Logical Unit Id 0), can you tell me what it's said for the data of "type" name?

Mine says "CdRomPeripheral." I also have a DeviceName: CdRom4. I don't have a DeviceName for other devices (2 HDD and CD drive).

Thank you for looking and letting me know.

Windows 2000 doesn't distinguish between CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives in the "Type" column. That feature was added in XP. Are you using XP or 2000?

I'm XP. So I should have "DVD drive"... Do you know how I can fix that?
