DVD Drive resets computer.

I'm not sure what is causing this. I've been backing up my DVDs fine for the past year or so (while I was away at school). I recently moved back home and now whenever I insert a DVD into the drive my computer resets within 30 seconds. Once, I managed to analyze the disk with DVDshrink but then it reset shortly after.

The only difference between setups is that back at school my computer was on a desk and here it was sitting on carpet. Could that possibly be the problem? I tried it up on the desk here at home and I still had the same problem.

What else could be causing this?

Thanks.

Maybe your PS is marginal and tired and when the DVD spins up it drops too low. What are the specs? What does the event viewer way?

I'm a little embarrassed to even post the specs, heh.
It's a 800mhz Duron, with 448mb ram, win xp.
The thing I find weird is that it suddenly just started doing this after working perfectly fine for a year.

And sorry I don't quite understand what you are asking here: What does the event viewer way?

I think CrispyFried meant to type "What does the Event Viewer say?"

I would recommend that you open up the case with the PC turned off and disconnect the power cable from the DVD drive then unplug and reseat both ends of the IDE cable attached to the drive to make sure they are tight, then reconnect the power cord and try again. It's possible that a cord got knocked loose when you moved the PC back home and it is shorting out and causing the system to reboot.
