hello my dvd drive is reading cd's very slowly about half the speed of my plexwriter 12/10/32a it's a acer 10x/40x drive what could the cause be ,a bios problem ?
i have latest 4-in1 drivers installed ,system is athlon1500xp,epox 8kha+,titanium geforce2,soundblaster live value ,i notce the drive is set to auto in the bios is that right whereas the plextor shows up as
a plextor(in the bios again)dma is enabled for both drives,when i use
cdrwin the read speed of the drive shows as 12x
I'm assuming you're using WinXP. Go to Device Manager and check out under the Primary or Secondary controller what the DMA settings are. Let us know what it says.
AUTO in BIOS is fine. But you can sure go ahead and force the DMA mode in BIOS if you want, but I dont think it will make a difference. I have a similar problem with my secondary hard drive. It's reading as PIO when it's supposed to be UDMA5 and I can't do anything about it. This is a known issue by Microsoft. I would give you the Article # if I still had it.
i'm on win 98se i checked primary and secondary controller but there's no dma setting but dma is enabled for both cd rom devices (plextor and acer)in control panel
