everybody seems to recommend the liteon ltd163 or the toshiba 16x. however, i searched on this forum and heard that an ltd165 will be coming out and will have the ability to play dvd-multi. what exactly is dvd-multi? i heard something about the ltd165 having the ability to play audio dvd. the ltd163 can't? i'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to this so i'm not sure what's going on

i'm wondering cuz i've never had a dvd rom drive (or a dvd player for that matter) and i want to know whether i should wait or not to get one

Well, the Toshiba M1612, although it doesn't say it, is already DVD Multi. Ie. Aside from the usual stuff, it reads DVD-R, DVD-RW, and DVD-RAM. For digital audio extraction the Lite-On is supposed to be perfect. For the Toshiba, one review says it's perfect and another says it isn't. Both drives are supposed to be quite good for backup of games. Either way, for $50 there's no real reason to wait, if you want a new ROM drive.

As for DVD-Audio, I believe it has more to do with the software than the drive itself but I'm not clear on the specifics.
