I noticed almost new computers come with two DVD drives..I am curious do you guys have two DVD drives on your PC? I am not sure if I am ready for a Blu Ray DVD drive because I dont plan to watch blu ray movies from my desktop pc.

I dont even put any optical drives in my desktops anymore, waste of money and SATA ports IMO. I use a USB external DVD drive when i need to install something which is pretty rare since most companies offer digital downloads now which is much more convenient, no bullshit about having to have CD in drive to use program/play game. I dont even burn things for friends anymore i just throw it on a flash drive or external HDD as its much faster.

I use an old PATA internal reader (slot feed) and an external USB burner on one system, two USB externals on another, and have replaced the opticals in two laptops with second HDDs. If I ever get a Blu-Ray, it will be a component of my home entertainment system - not on my PC. Am generally evolving to what Ritterut does. 🙂

Your system did not come with two DVD drives. It came with one DVD drive and one blu-ray drive.
I suspect the DVD is a dual layer burner maybe with light-scribe, and the blu-ray drive is just a reader. If it were a burner then you would have only been given one drive.

My old Dell came with DVD-CD/RW drive. I have also added a drive capable of DVD burning, but it is only single layer DVD. Next time it needs replacing it will probably have Blu-Ray capability, but I don't need that currently. And I do prefer 2 drives. One to read from, other for burning.

I decided not to buy BluRay DVD because it has SATA and my mobo has two SATA connectors but they are for SATA HD only. So I bought new DVD drive with LS technology I ditched old dvd-rw drive
