I just recently reconnected it and i wasnt able to burn anything. then today i found the option to enable buring. so i managed to burn a CDR. then i figured i'd be able to finally erase my dvdrw but once i click erase dvd in nero the option to start was grayed out. i've no where near reached the limit of the dvdrw so i'm really confused on how to proceed :/

thanks for any help!

Also i dont think windows is reading the drive properly. when i click properties it says under recording tab "enable CD recording on this drive" nothing about dvds

Have you tried burning DVDs, or are you just having an issue erasing a DVD-RW? Did you originally burn the DVD on that drive? What version of Nero are you using?

i've only burned one cdr since it was the only disk i had that wasnt being used. This is the same DVD drive i've burned everything with. i'm using the latest version of nero 7.5.9.0 i also tried other programs but none of them allow me to erase the disk

Do you have access to another computer with a burner that you can attempt to erase the disc on? Why haven't you tried burning anymore DVDs on that burner? I wouldn't assume it were having problems with DVD just because it can't erase a single DVD-RW, especially if I hadn't even tried burning one.

As for the Windows setting in the property page you asked about earlier, that's for Windows' built-in CD burning. Windows does not have any built-in DVD burning.

well i've had this burner for a while and used it a lot. Over the summer i had to take out some things in my computer and kinda forgot to plug the power back into the drive lol so i lived without it. recently i opened it up again and plugged it in. Ever since then i'm having annoying issue's. Its not just one dvdrw its all of them in my 25 pack. I was trying to think of who else has a dvdr drive i can try but no ones coming to mind ~.~

I figured it was a software issue. Generally you don't see a drive burn and read fine but then have issues erasing, but there are plenty of software issue related to erasing discs.

ya those software install something named SPTD and apparently causes a lot of issues for many ppl. I accidentally came across it and was like "what the hell might as well try" and it worked. I might try to reinstall daemon tools since the problem went away after I removed alchohol120%
