"you can put the disclaimer *posting for idiot noobie w/ no account* on top or something"

I was asked to post this:

Ok, I just bought a PC from someone online, and everything is fine, except that the DVD drive (only cd drive on the thing) wont work. It ejects/closes fine, and according to windows its functioning properly and is detected, but when I put ANY cd in (dvd, audio, cd rom) I just get the "Please insert a disk in Drive D" message.

The the only thing I think is funny is whenever I boot up, on the first screen when your memory is loading and all that stuff, there is a line that reads "Primary IDE channel 80 no cable installed".

Drive is a RAITE dvd rom, amd duron 750 cpu, abit kt7a motherboard.

I'm just looking for any suggestions as to how to trouble shoot it. I've already tried all the pin settings (cable select, slave, master) and checked all cable connections.

Thanks.

jeff
