DVD drive not working in diff comp?

I recently bought a Samsung SD604 from Compgeeks, new system pull, worked like a champ in my BH6, C2-566@952. It was hooked up as the secondary master (had two hds on primary, stupid yes but getting ready to use the other HD for another comp, and the dvd drive and a burner on the secondary) Used PowerDVD as my DVD player.

Then I swapped it into an old Compaq P166, 24 MB RAM, set up as my secondary master. (Its the only drive besides my HD in this comp) It works fine reading CDs - I installed some stuff with it. However, it refuses to read DVDs. Tried two different DVDs, when you put it in the drive light blinks for 5 seconds, then the HD access something, the drive light blinks, etc. And when I had the DVD in there and I rebooted, during the bootup process the comp slowed up trying to read the DVD.

I haven't a clue what's wrong with it. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Lemme guess... the compaq has win95 not win98?

Win95 doesn't support the UDFS used for the file system on DVD. Simple as that.

It's been upgraded to Win98se

I've checked the BIOS, nothing there. I've turned off all programs in msconfig (startup) that might interfere. Nothing. It says its working fine in Device Manager. Tried turning on DMA. Nothing.
