My DVD drive is not recognizing my DVD-R disks. It recognizes the + disks fine. Is there anything I need to do when burning disks to get them recognized, or is it just my specific drive?

The burner I am using is a Lite-On411s
The DVD drive that will not recognize the discs is an GDR8161B

You can check for a firmware update, I had that happen in my Lite-on DVD-ROM. It wouldn't handle DVDR video discs right when done in a dual format burner, it's something to do with the way dual format drives tag them. The update fixed it, though.

Not all drives read every format it would logically make sense for them to... ever wonder why old cdroms, car stereos and discmans cant read cdr's or only read them half-assed? same concept here.

Time to upgrade optical drives. Good luck
