Okay here is the deal, I think the problem is with my motherboard but since I don't have any way to check I don't want to go out and get a new one and then still experience all the same problems so I'm looking to hear what you guys have to say.
The dvd drive one day just stopped being recognized, it just like disappeared from bios, boot up and windows. It's just like it's not connected. To get it to reappear I have to unplug the power connector to it and then plug it back in. It will then be recognized again but only for a short time and then it disappears again.
Another problem that has been happening, albeit a lot less frequently is the ram needing to be reseated. The computer will just freeze up and then when I restart it just beeps like there is a problem and the ram then has to be taken out and then put back into its place and then all is well in the world again. Strange, but I guess its just the motherboard crapping out or something.
The last problem is the sound card. It used to be crystal clear and now there are popping sounds every once in a while which really gets on my nerves. Might this be a mobo problem as well?
I figured that I would try getting a new mobo and new power supply and hope for the best but if there is more than just that let me know what I should do.
Here are my system specs:
AMD Athlon 1 ghz (not overclocked)
Iwill kk266 mobo
256 mb ram
40 gig maxtor hard drive
Crummy power supply
Plextor CDRW drive
Pioneer dvd drive (slot loading)
Philips acoustic edge sound card
3com NIC
Nvidia gforce3 video card
All with latest drivers and running on the crummy Windows ME (which i also plan to get rid of).
So what do you all think? Should I just try swapping motherboards or is it something less?
What should I do?
Thanks.
