dvd-drive not reading dvd

I have a dvd that i recorded on my dvdram drive. Now all of the sudden it doesn't read it at all and showing the dvd as empty. When i put that same dvd into dvd player it reads it fine and shows the picture contents.

anybody has any idea? ( i actually formatted the HD for other reasons and it still doesn't read it on a freshly installed system)
