DVD drive IDE placement?

Hi All,
I have an 80GB WD (C and D) on IDE1 and an 80GB Seagate (E and F) on IDE 2. C is for Win and programs, D for games. E has the swap file at the beginning and the rest for storage, Photoshop "temp" file, F has backups and patches.
I also have a SCSI CD and CDR/RW setup.
I bought a DVD -R/-RW and wonder is it should go on IDE 2 as slave? If so, would burning be more efficient if the source files were on C or D as opposed to E or F?
Or should it go on IDE 1 as slave and use E or F for source files? Would the DVD as slave on IDE1 cause any slowdowns with the WD drive?
In other words, my thought is that any files to be burned (video editing, backups, etc) to the DVD drive should be on the opposite harddrive?
Any tips or comments welcome,
TIA,
Mike G

Basically, you can expect a slowdown when copying from the HD that is on the same channel as the DVD-RW drive because the DVD drive has to wait for the data from the HD.

This would not be the case if you burning data from a HD on a different channel, as the burning and data accessing can occur simutaneously.

However, burning from a HD on the same channel shouldn't be a problem with current DVD-RW drives and hard drives. Many of the problems you see are with "on-the-fly" copying from a CDROM to a CDR drive that are both on the same channel. Quite simply, the CDROM cannot provide data fast enough to the burner if you are burning at high speeds (40+).

With copying from HD to DVD-RW drive, I doubt you'd have any problems...
