when a dvd video disc is put into my drive, sometimes it plays totally fine. for others though, it gives out clicking sound and sounds like its having trouble seeking and reading. i have one disc that just refuses to play in the drive, which is a Panasonic (Mashita) SR-8586. windows can't even recognize that there is a disc in the drive.

anyone with this or other dvd drives has had problem like this? any ideas?

I think that is considered normal with a Pioneer drive, but I do not know with Panasonic

I have a Creative Labs DVD-ROM DVD2240E drive which is made by Panasonic and has the same problem your drive does. I have found that it only has this problem with particular DVD's & it will usually read them after reloading the DVD into the drive several times. It seems to have more problems recognizing newer DVD's for some reason. I have had this drive for almost three years so I guess I can't complain much. If anyone knows of a solution to this problem let's hear it.

I have the exact same problem with my Acer 10X DVD Drive....not sure the model but that does happen. I usually got mad and tried again like 5 mins later or rebooted in some cases and that usually works.

what movies do not work for you? me, keeping the faith just refuses to play totally. sometimes have problems with out of sight.

i just wonder if its certain type of dvd type- layered, whatever, that's causing the trouble.
