DVD drive doesnt recognize disc

My DVD drive doesnt detect my discs which it identified earlier normal CDs work fine some times when i take off a normal cd and put in a dvd disc the drive gives me the files in the normal cd that has been taken out
My drive is a Mercury combo 52X CD 48XCDr and 16XDVD drive
