My computer has a DVD drive and a DVD burner. I keep my current game in the burner and my wife's game is always in the DVD drive (Sony DDU1612).

Today she went to play the Sims 2 and nothing (insert DVD). I can insert different discs and it spins up but nothing (can't explore discs either)? I went to the device manager and uninstalled it and rebooted. Windows detected it and installed basic drivers and nothing?

Do DVD driver just die sometimes for no reason? This drive was new and has only been in use a year since I built my system.

Thanks!

Edit......... this is weird....... nothing changed and the drive worked fine yesterday... today it won't read any DVD or CD? Do lasers go bad that fast?

I had two LiteOn CD Burners that lasted less than 4 months each. They just stopped reading CD's though
everything showed up as normal in Device Manager. I tried everything and then just got a LG Burner.
No Problems since.
