OK, so in a nutshell: about a year ago, I bought an 18x dvd burner w/ lighscribe from Newegg, it was one of those $25 dollar ones, cant remember the brand, wait a sec:
Samsung 18x
So anyway, I took out the CDRW put that in, installed the software, did the lightscribe upgrade, and all that. Woekd fine.
After a couple months, I noticed that the compute would shut down at odd times, usually when the drive was operating, burning a disc etc. It was a hard shut down where i had to flip the switch on the back to off then back on to get the PC to turn on.
Other stuff was going on with this aged PC (Windows XP, AMD 2400, 1 gd ram FX5200) and I didnt bother with it, and then it started doing the shut down thing while booting up whenever there wwas a disc in the drive, i.e. if I left a disc in the drive when i shut it down the nite before, it would not boot properly, so i ouwld have to take the disc out to get it to boot.
So last week I did a complete wipe and reformat, havent installed any programs except for windows updates, not even any DVD writing software, and it is doing the same thing - causing the computer to shut down during boot up if there is a disc in the drive. Also tring to burn a CD using Windows Media Player 11 caused the same shut down, any ideas what might be causing this? I am prtty sure it is the drive, but it seems to work ok other than this odd problem.
