DVD Drive (Black?)

Thinking of an early Christmas present for my girlfriend. She has a Dell 8100 (Black case) and I was hoping to hear what you guys recommend in a DVD drive. Is it worth looking for a black drive or should I just get a 16X Pioneer or Lite On in Standard Beige? I think I remember a Pioneer model possibly coming in black for a few extra $$? Thanks for any responses.

does the case have a drive bay cover?

get whatever floats your boat... i bought regular beige drives with my black Antec SX1030B cause it has a black door that covers the drives...

else i'd either say don't buy a black case or buy black drives... the Pioneer slot load DVD106S is so far a great drive. (what I have)

Thanks for the reply, Yield, I'm not sure about the case but I honestly doubt it. Anyone know anything more about this the first entry? I suppose it's just black in color, also reliability of the site and is software necessary/included (she has a P4, would Windows Media Player do it well enough if software isn't bundled)? Too many questions! 🙂

I have a black Pioneer DVD 106S drive... it came in beige though. 😉

Just get whatever drive you want and spray paint it black with some Krylon Semi-Flat Black spray paint. My black drives look like they were originally black. 😀 Professional look all the way. 😉

P.S. I can't stand a black case with beige drives in it! 😛

CuervDoh:

i live in london, england, and i've seen some cd and dvd drives that have black face-plates in computer fairs. now, the uk is rather backwards when it comes to things like pc's and components and if i can find them here, i'm sure you can nail one from say a large independent supplier or something... good luck! 🙂

I have the LiteOn 16X and it truly rocks. I got it because of its AWSOME DAE speed. Only drive to beat it in DAE performance is the Kenwood 62/72X. I got a result of 37.2x where as the Pioneer DVD got like 17x.... thats why I went with Liteon, I rip alot of CDs to MP3 cause my car stereo supports MP3 CDs. It is also #3 in DVD speed only BARELY beat by 2 other drives. For CD data it is #13, beating out many 52x CD-Roms and its only 48x, it is the highest 48x on the list. BTW all this info comes from CD Speed homepage... http://www.cdspeed2000.com
