dvd drive always running when a disk is in there

If I have a disk in the dvdrom it spins constantly, even after a fresh boot the dvd drive is running at full speed.

I think this is normal for some drives.

My Benq DVD Drive spins nonstop whenever a disc is in the drive.

That's pretty crap. Perhaps there are firmware updates or otherwise a specific manufacturer's software utility or Nero DriveSpeed could be used to overcome the limitation.

My Pioneer drives in my desktops stop spinning as soon as the disk is ID's. Same for my laptop. Same for three external burners - all Plextors.
